What to Expect During Bone Densitometry

A bone density study uses low-dose X-rays to help detect osteoporosis.

Before Your Test

Don't take any multi-vitamins, calcium supplements or Fosamax for 24 hours before your test. Ask your technologist about any medications you take.

During Your Test

The test is performed while you lie or sit on a table. A scanner will move back and forth over the part of your body being examined. You should remain as still as possible during the test. The technologist may adjust your body or the scanner during the exam.

After Your Test
