Northern Nevada Medical Center Ranked a Top Hospital for Excellence in Patient Safety
Northern Nevada Medical Center (NNMC) was recognized by Premier Inc., a healthcare improvement organization, as one of 27 hospitals across the nation excelling in patient safety. The hospital was the only organization recognized in Nevada.
The Safety Across the Board award recognizes top-performing hospitals within Premier’s Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN). Each hospital must demonstrate excellence in performance through 13 adverse event areas and actively participate in the HIIN program. Adverse events monitored include airway safety, adverse drug events, catheter-associated urinary tract infection, central line-associated bloodstream infection, antibiotic stewardship, falls, pressure ulcers, sepsis, surgical infections, venous thromboembolism, ventilator-associated events, readmissions and MRSA.
“Our hospital has created a culture of safety that is embraced by all levels of staff, and we are proud to be recognized as a national leader,” said Carla Adams, chief nursing officer at NNMC. “We remain focused on reducing harm for every patient, at all times, and we are constantly evolving our practices to ensure patients experience a safe environment.”
In addition, NNMC was recognized as a Leapfrog Group A-grade hospital for patient safety. This accolade identifies a facility's focus on safety practices.
