Northern Nevada Medical Center Now Offers Outpatient Lymphedema Therapy Services
Northern Nevada Medical Center (NNMC) is expanding its capabilities by offering lymphedema treatment services within its outpatient physical therapy department. Patients suffering from lymphatic obstruction and chronic edema/swelling can now receive high-quality care from a certified lymphedema therapist and licensed Occupational Therapist, Tifanee Calawod, OTR/L, CLT.
This service is considerably helpful to patients who have cancer. Lymphedema is a common side effect of surgery and radiation therapy. Patients who have received these oncology treatments may have difficulties draining fluid properly and may experience pain, swelling and significant discomfort.
“This therapeutic treatment will help patients by minimizing unnecessary discomfort and pain after surgery or radiation,” said Alan Olive, CEO of Northern Nevada Medical Center. “Through this treatment, Calawod empowers patients to achieve their highest level of functional mobility and activity of daily living performance.”
Calawod graduated from Emilio Aguinaldo College in the Philippines in 2009 with her Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy. She has been practicing in Nevada since 2011 focusing on functional rehabilitation for patients with neurologic deficits.

She is certified to treat lymphedema (both primary and secondary), lipedema, phlebo-lymphostatic edema, chronic venous insufficiencies and post traumatic edema.
