The Joint Commission Gold Seal of ApprovalNorthern Nevada Medical Center (NNMC) and the ER at Damonte Ranch, An Extension of Northern Nevada Medical Center, were both accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), a national organization that assesses healthcare organizations and their ability to provide care consistent with leading practices.

ER at Damonte Ranch was accredited and recognized for its ability to abide by established processes to provide safe, high-quality care. NNMC was re-certified as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center for its consistency in providing high-level care for stroke patients and adherence to clinical practice guidelines and TJC’s standards.

“Our team is committed to ensuring we are held to the highest national standards and earn certification from The Joint Commission, which is one of the most recognized accreditation boards in the country,” said Helen Lidholm, Chief Executive Officer at Northern Nevada Medical Center.

ER at Damonte Ranch opened in March 2024, and this accreditation serves as the facility’s first from a national body. Criteria for the freestanding emergency department included an on-site life safety and clinical survey aimed to determine the facility’s compliance to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and TJC standards. Surveyors randomly selected patient cases and used medical records to track and evaluate the care provided. In addition, surveyors observed doctors and nurses providing the care, and spoke to the patients themselves to better assess the treatment plan.

NNMC’s re-certification as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center follows the facility’s previous two-year certification in this specialty. NNMC staff provided quarterly sets of data through their previous certification period to demonstrate adherence to recognized best practices to be re-certified.

“As our health system expands across the market, the standard we set is for all hospital-based facilities to achieve accreditation by The Joint Commission, as they become eligible. This is an important milestone that validates adherence to national patient safety goals and elevates care in our region,” said Jordan Herget, Chief Executive Officer at Sierra Medical Center.

Northern Nevada Medical Center is also certified by TJC for advanced heart failure, and its advanced total hip and knee replacements and spine surgery programs. The ER at McCarran NW, the system’s first freestanding emergency department introduced to the market, is certified as a comprehensive stroke center.
